Franz Josef Special Rating District -Waiho River Southside Protection Stopbank and Northside Havill Wall Stopbank Loan Consultation
West Coast Regional Council is consulting with the Franz Josef Special Rating District community to determine whether to recommend proceeding with a split share with the Government’s regional infrastructure fund to help protect the community from future flood risk.
The estimated cost of works to provide the community with flood protection over the next ten years is $10 million. The Government’s regional infrastructure fund has proposed to undertake 60 per cent ($6 million) of the works, with Council taking out a loan on behalf of the Franz Josef Special Rating district for the remaining 40 per cent. This would significantly reduce the cost to the community for essential work. Consultation has now closed. For further information click here.
